Developmentally Appropriate Program for Pre-school Age Children

  • Activities such as games, songs where children names are used.
  • Providing mirrors, allowing children to make choices.
  • Using tactile and other sensory materials to stimulate senses.
  • Utilizing materials that represent the cultural population of the children in the center, such as books, posters, puppets and videos.
  • Through stories and music related to child’s culture.
  • Accepting each family and their heritage.
  • Daily group activities, art, puzzles, music and story time.
  • Promoting activities that require more than one child.
  • Setting limits.
  • Conversing at mealtime.
  • Recognizing name verbally, and written.
  • Displaying children’s artwork.
  • Walking field trips with appropriate staff may be used as outdoor activity.

Developmentally Appropriate Program for School Age and Night Care

  • School age children shall have an opportunity to engage in a variety of self-directed and group activities, such as the building block theory, various age appropriate board and card games, lesson planning to promote self-esteem, self-concept and self-discipline and maintaining academic levels in each child.
  • School age children will be provided assistance with their school/homework and reading.

Sample Daily Routine

During transitions of activities, songs, finger plays, books, etc will be used to help children move to the next scheduled time or while they wait for the next activity.

During free play, there will be specific learning centers to encourage small group or individual play. There will be opportunities for art, science, math, reading and quiet time, dramatic play and kitchen area, etc. Cultural diversity is displayed in the classroom. 

We may include religious practices in our routines such as:

  • Offer prayer before meals
  • Offer bible stories during small group time
  • We may celebrate Christmas, Easter, Halloween, & Valentine’s Day

Daytime Class Schedule

  • 6:00am-8:00am: Children arrive – breakfast and individualized activities made suitable for early morning arrivals.
  • 8:30am-9:00am: Children separate to their own rooms, toileting and washing up.
  • 9:00am-9:15am: Good morning and attendance
  • 10:00am-10:30am: Fine arts (music, art, drama, small muscle activities and manipulatives.)
  • 10:30am-11:15am: Activity center, language development/ reading readiness
  • 11:30am: Clean up and Lunch
  • 12:00am-2:30pm: Naptime
  • 2:30pm-3:00pm: Wake up, toileting and afternoon snack
  • 3:00pm-3:30pm: free play (children’s choice)
  • 3:30pm-4:00pm: Children prepare to leave transition music
  • 4:00pm-5:30pm: Individualized activities made suitable for the late children’s departure.
  • 5:30pm-6:00pm: Clean-up

Evening Class Schedule

  • 5:30pm-6:30pm: Toileting and washing up, Dinner
  • 6:30pm-7:30pm: Children separate to their rooms, activity center, small activities and homework
  • 7:30pm-8:00pm: Snack time, toileting and washing up.
  • 8:00pm-6:00am: Rest time
  • 6:00am-6:30am: Wake up, toileting, clean up and departures
